According to this website, a SAHM in my neighborhood should be making about a hundred grand a year. Two things.
1. Where do they get this information? I am the only SAHM in my neighborhood. In fact our neighbors think that Brad is a saint for not making me get a job, and that I'm some kind of nutso slacker. And honestly, they're right on both counts.
2. Where's my money?

I'm sorry. I needed to use your money for wine and midget porn.
You understand, don't you?
Ummmm, the linky mcdinky won't work and I was dying to know what my salary was.
You know, I got really irritated when Matt's bosses bitched at him until I got a job. Full- time school and three kids were just not enough! So I got the most laid- back job I could find. Unfortunately it's over for the summer, but guess what? We're just fine. I'm not even getting a shred of child support. We're just happy we got almost all our deposit back on the last place we rented- it's paying our rent this month.
I'm going to try to find a job- one where I still won't have to do much, because I'll lose my mind. Work might be out for the summer, but I'm still registered for school.
Fixed it! It's www.indeed.com, click on "salary" at the top of the page.
That is interesting. I'm going to see how much I'm not making either.
Btw, I used to live in Albuquerque for 5 years. LOVED it.
So, I gotta move to Albuquerque (man, that's a hard word to type!)... In my tiny, podunk town in Colorado, I only don't make $28,000 a year. 19% less than the national average other SAHMs don't make.
Yeah, I'd make 128,000. My husband is planning on changing careers and becoming a stay at home mom too now, since it's so much more lucrative than engineering.
Sounds like you have a pretty good union.
Good question. And you can find my money too.
I'm a Stay At Home Dad. Yes, I'm very SAHD ....
Honestly though, since you haven't yet finished college, your job would just go to pay someone to watch your children. UNLESS you were able to work when Brad was home, but from everything I have read that would be nearly impossible with his job. So you can work to pay someone else to raise you kids or raise them the way you want to. Not that I don't think Brad isn't a "saint" for not making you get a job, but it just isn't feasible for mom's without degrees to work for more money than it would take to keep their kids in daycare.
Do you get the extra $4k for the "A" in your title?
Kidding babe. Tough job. I know I couldn't do it.
Stephanie- I totally agree, I don't understand how any of my neighbors think they're coming out ahead. They work in fast food restaurants and such, and they all have several children that require care. I think they must be getting alot of help from government assistance programs, and maybe have family members helping with the kids. And then they spend what little money they make on alcohol, fireworks, and pot.
Man, you're in a swanky neighborhood. Mine only rates $19,000.
wtf? you get paid for being a sahm??? all i got was a bunch of kids and a dirty house!
Bah! Don't we wish? I was a SAHM for a few years and most definitely did not get that kind of paycheck.
Very clever contest rules, by the way. Starbucks rules!
I'm hosting 3 contests this week. Stop by!
I better get both health and dental - I'd only make $35,000 as a SAHM.
Wow. I didn't know we could make so much. Makes the dishpan hands worth it. I'll have to look at what the going rate is in our neighborhood. Then I can justify my STARBUCKS habit. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
wow! Mine says it's $33,000. I need to move. haha!!
Oh yeah, I LOVE Starbucks!!
I would like to get in on some of that action... the money that is. :o

ha ha. Thankfully I have a big support group of us slackers - we help to encourage each other that we've earned our shopping allowance each month.
Starbucks!
Ugh, I used to hate these surveys when I was a recruiter! I have NO IDEA where they get their data, and they are always ridiculously wrong.
But maybe just for fun, you should apply to unemployment with this data and see what sort of benefits they could offer you. ha, ha.

I'm so in the wrong business if this were the case... I'm blessed to eek out enough to pay for my Starbucks' addiction as it is... (smooth, wasn't it?)
i'm a stay at home mom, too, and rather than MAKE a hundred thousand a year my husband is sure i SPEND a hundred thousand a year!!
yours in starbucks, jan
You're in Albuquerque? That isn't that far from me... I'm in Alamosa, CO (up in the Valley). But don't fear... our town may be small. But we still have a Starbucks!
Ok! I admit to the guzzling caffeine, but the forgoing basic hygiene is taking it a bit far. I sure did enjoy sipping my Starbucks as I read through your blog.

Hey, I'd be happy making minimum wage! But w/ 4 little ones, I wonder what all my work is worth... And, btw, Srarbucks. : )
just think of all the STARBUCKS you could get with that much money..hehe!
I had seen this list before, and wondered how much extra a woman should get per kid she has? Seems like we are all really underpaid, now no wonder we can't afford STARBUCKS as much as we would like to!
