1. I don't like eighties music. Especially not Madonna. If Borderline, Lucky Star, or Holiday come on the radio I cannot shut it off quickly enough. I will actually injure myself and break things in my rush to shut that woman's trap. I know a lot of people love eighties music, but I have many issues with it. The voices are nasal and whiney, or they sound like they've got laryngitis or a severe case of hiccups. The subject matter is ridiculous and shallow and completely nonsensical. Not that today's music isn't shallow, but then I didn't say I like today's music, did I? I can't do classic rock either, which Brad loves. The only classic rock bands I can handle are Aerosmith and The Doors.
2. When I was in high school I was a bit of a Trekkie and I had a crush on Wil Wheaton, who played Ensign Crusher on The Next Generation. Not a huge crush, but enough of a crush to have a good-sized poster of him on the back of my bedroom door. I lost interest in the show when he left it. Now he's a writer, but I haven't read any of his books, and I find it off-putting that he looks exactly the same.3. I actually don't like pink. My favorite colors are red, black, yellow, and white. I chose pink for my blog because it's easy on the eyes.
4. I'm not busy. I know we SAHMs are supposed to say we are, and that by admitting I'm not I may be rocking the SAHM boat. Someones in their various somewheres are shushing me right now. I'm supposed to defy the stereotype by going on about the millions of things I have to do, and the piles of laundry I've been unable to get to as a result of all this running around like a chicken minus the head. But it's true, I don't have a million things to do, and my laundry basket is never full. I have plenty of time to sit here telling you how very un-busy I am. I'm even barefoot and pregnant. At least I'm not in the kitchen.
5. I've always wished I needed glasses. My parents and my brother all wear them, but I am cursed with perfect vision. I can only hope that my vision deteriorates with age. People that wear glasses seem so intelligent, even if they aren't, and mysterious. I guess I see glasses as tiny doubled tele-prompters that only the wearer can read. They also give an extra layer of protection to the socially inept, and boy am I socially inept. If I knew where to get perfectly clear specs I'd buy some.

22 Excellent Points:
I hate Madonna too, and now I feel all weird cause Starbucks is so not the word to say since the draw closed.
I actually like some of the later stuff she did, like Vogue and Like a Prayer and such. I even liked her Ray of Light album. But I can't stand her 80's stuff, and I don't like what I've heard of her newest stuff either. It also really bugs me how in her newest promo shots her legs are spread wide open in every picture. It's like, "okay, we know you're flexible! We get it! And we figured out you're a slut in 1985! Can we move on???"
SAHMs may not be busy with cleaning and washing alone. But add in the blogging commitment, that's when most are truly busy, I think! LOL
Borderline is one of my favorite songs. I remember being 13 and sitting on the beach with our *boombox*. ;o)
My sister is a forced SAHM, she was just laid off and is also pregnant. She says she hasn't slept so much ever. I'm jealous!
Cursed with perfect vision? Are you nuts?!? What I wouldn't give to be able to afford some Lasik sometime.
Ok so my parents were huge Trekkies. I was never a major trekkie but I always watched Generations every Sunday night and I had a crush on Wheaton as well.
Pink is easy on the eyes?
...ok
And there are definitely places to get perscriptionless glasses. My roommate got them one year at Pearle or something. I really need glasses (legally blind without them) and I wanted to smack her for getting them cause they looked so "fun" when they have been one of the banes of my existence since I was 6. But to each their own I guess.
Three things:
1. Aerosmith is my all-time favorite band ever
2. Do you ever read Wil Wheaton's blog? http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/
3. How long do we still have to type Starbucks in all our comments?
Yeah too bad I don't suffer from these struggles... I have contacts and have since I was eight and I keep myself way too busy at times. Sometimes I lose track of things and just run out of time.
Tot's Mom- and that's why I do it! It's much harder with a small baby though. Those first six months or so are the worst six months of parenting as far as I'm concerned.
lilacspecs- can you imagine if my layout was in my favorite colors? You'd go blind!
Jeff- the contest ended yesterday. I did go by his blog once.
Be careful what you wish for. I've never wanted glasses, but now my vision is getting a little iffy sometimes. Glasses are expensive and I don't want to have to spend $80- 300 on something I'm bound to lose constantly.
The first six months of parenting aren't that bad. Just wait till they start dating.
I'll confess- I never cared for the Doors. Everyone else I know loves them.
So with you on the Wil Wheaton crush thing.
Your brother is itching to get me into glasses. I'm sadly afraid I might actually need them.
And I will out myself on the whole Wil Wheaton thing too before Jason comes on here for me. His writing is very good. It's been awhile since I've been to his blog, but I do have one of his books.
Will Wheaton replaced Scott Baio as the strange guy every girl had a crush on but then didn't age...ever...and got creepier and creepier with time.
I am so jealous about your #4. And growing up I always wanted glasses too! I convincingly faked the eye exam (my brother too, we were in on it together) and we BOTH got glasses, which I then complained about wearing all the time.
In high school and college, I still had great vision but I bought frames and wore them anyway with non-Rx lenses.
And now? I can't see worth CRAP and HATE that I have to wear glasses!!
damn, sarah beat me. i had one of our computers with a log off sound of pickard yelling "shut up westly". we watch star trek dvds every friday night at our house, and we are past weaton. Ive always been a Data fan. as far as 80s music, i must confess i had a thingfor old school rap, (before the bass got rediculous). I also liked the pet shop boys, but i cant stand 'classic rock" it literaly gives me a headache. now days im into newer composed stuff usualy found in the new age section.
Wanna swap eyes?
"Pappa Don't Preach?" Nothing? You don't sway a little to the beat? Oh, ok. The song sucks.
I only suffered through the Flubber remake to see more of Wil Wheaton.
I've always liked them geeky, though. I remember crushing on the fish-lipped Donald Fagen from Steely Dan and Bill Nye The Science Guy!
(I can handle 80's Madonna, I just hate her current stuff. That pertains to music and personal opinions)
I don't mind some of the eighties stuff, but I listened to country music in the 80's, since that is what my parents listened to. As a SAHM, I must also admit I am not as busy as I would be if I worked. My laundry basket is usually full, but that is just because I only do laundry once a week and it piles up. I wear glasses and they are not all they are cracked up to be. I got contacts before 9th grade just to get rid of my glasses. They hurt my nose and ears. I always thought Wil Wheaton was cute, too. It is so weird that he looks the same, 20 years later. That is a scary number. Must go lie down now.
I am with you on #1, there are very few songs from the 80's. Actually the first non-oldies(like from the 50's) CD I bought was in 1993 Ace of Base, I was 13.
I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who hates the '80s! I'm supposed to love 'em because my "formative years" of high school and college happened them. But that music makes me wheeze! I'd rather listen to country (and I hate country!)
Also, had the curse of 20/20 vision my whole life, and yearned to accessorize with glasses. But, oh, Lucky me! Just had an eye appt ~ and I get to have some now! Oh, goody! Bifocals! From 20/20 to bifocals! I may be kicking myself for ever wishing them on myself...
